Joseph Saddler or Grandmaster Flash is a musician regarded as a pioneer of Rap, Hip-Hop, Scratch and remix. He is the inventor of certain techniques like cutting. Always inventive, the DJ uses his feet and his toes to scratch.
Joseph was born on 1 January 1958 in Barbados, but grew up in New York in the area of the Bronx.
His speed and dexterity are at the origin of his nickname Flash (Flash Gordon), as well as its ability to change discs with the feet, hands behind their backs earned him the title of Grandmaster.
He had acquired the dexterity noting that another DJ, Kool Herk, often at the wrong time to move a disk. So he decided to learn the techniques of disco DJs, including the fact listening to the disc that we are preparing to move with earphones.
Grandmaster Flash was often more busy changing his records to encourage the audience to dance as did the other DJs of Block Parties. So he decided to ask friends to do it in his place. Soon, they had enough to do anything other than to encourage the public and decided to tell other topics as life in the ghetto.
In addition, Grandmaster Flash is the one who has perfected the scratch.
